Starburst 70 Alloy

With higher silver content. Because Starburst 70 has a silver content of just under 70% the restoration is shinier, with a deeper lustre and improved final appearance. Although many high copper alloys are manufactured with a reduced silver content of 45-50%, these alloys tend to look visually grey and the lower silver content can make them less durable. Starburst 70 has a silver content of 69.2% for greater durability and corrosion resistance and the mechanically weak gamma-2 (Sn7Hg) phase in the final alloy is avoided. With a 70:30 mixture of lathe-cut and spherical particles Starburst 70 has a firm packing feel yet the adaptation to the cavity walls is extremely tight. It is rapidly ready for carving yet the limit of carvability is eight minutes.

Starburst Spherical Alloy

For tighter marginal adaptation Starburst Spherical contains none of the weak gamma-2 (Sn7Hg) phase in the final alloy. It is 100% spherical so also requires only light packing pressure combined with extremely tight adaptation to the cavity walls. It is highly plastic with a superfast set and an extremely low Powder:Hg ratio of 600:430, thus reducing the amount of mercury that is subsequently expressed. Starburst Spherical is zinc free and so is the amalgam of choice where moisture contact is difficult to avoid.

Starburst Alloy Capsules

Capsules ultrasonically sealed and 100% tested for seal integrity. Containing Starburst Alloy powder, Starburst Amalgam Capsules are ultrasonically sealed to ensure that there is no mercury leakage either during transport or during the mixing process, but even this is insufficient for schottlander quality. Every capsule which comes off the production line is checked for microscopic leakage in a special vacuum testing unit to show up any loss of integrity in the seal.
